Registration

Due to the fact that the National Library of Medicine provides the conference venue free of charge, no conference fee is being charged. In addition there is not formal registration process. The workshop is open to all interested parties. In order to get an idea how many people are going to attend we simply ask you to send the organizers a quick email if you plan to attend. All participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.

Directions - Arriving by Air

National Airport is on the Metro (subway) system. Take the Yellow Line, changing to the Red Line toward NIH and Bethesda. In heavy traffic (rush hour), the Metro is often a better transportation alternative, preferred over taxis.

Dulles is out of town, west of the Washington D.C. area. It is the largest airport, with good international service. Arriving at Dulles, you need taxi service to reach Washington and NIH.

Rail service (short shuttle to the Amtrak and/or MARC station) will take you to Union Station in Washington D.C. From there, travelers can catch the Metro Red line (subway) toward NIH. Alternately, there is bus service provided by Metro to the Greenbelt Station where riders can catch the Green Line, changing to the Red Line toward Bethesda. Taxi service is always an option. BWI is a hub for Southwest Airlines, with direct flights from Boston, Albany, and Salt Lake City.

Directions - Via Metro

Take the Red Line to the Medical Center stop. Exit the Metro system up the 9th-longest escalator in the world. Enter the NIH Visitor's Center. Give them your driver's license and walk through the metal detector. They will return your license with a visitor's badge.

You can exit the visitor's center on the top level. There should be a sign directing you to the NLM and the Natcher Center. The Natcher Center is the first building you'll see. Go around it and cross Center Drive.

Directions - By Car

Follow the Washington Beltway (I-95/I-495) toward Rockville. Exit on Rockville Pike/Wisconsin Avenue toward D.C.

Follow Wisconsin Ave south between NIH and Bethesda Naval. You should pass the Medical Center Metro station and take your next right. This is the visitor's entrance to NIH.

Turn right into NIH. Bear right into the security inspection station. Give them your driver's license and walk through the metal detector. They will return your license with a visitor's badge.

If you park in the parking lot there, you can exit the visitor's center on the top level. There should be a sign directing you to the NLM and the Natcher Center. The Natcher Center is the first building you'll see. Go around it and cross Center Drive.

Directions on Campus

From the Visitor's Center to the Lister Hill Center. Our building is just south of the parking garage, across Center Drive. The lower structure is building 38, the NLM collection. The taller limestone and glass building is building 38A, the Lister Hill Center.

Walk up the drive and enter the lobby of the Lister Hill Center. The Auditorium is on the first floor.
